A long visitor

It is supposed to be a quiet country-side vacation for me at my parents'.
Well, my parents didn't tell me how noisy they could be.
Yesterday, I asked them nicely if they had a thought of giving them away soon.
The chicks are huge now, and they are making crazy-cry all day long.
Yesterday was the most crazy day.
静かな田舎の休日を過ごすはずであったが、
両親の家には新しいペットが！
かわいいし、おいしい卵も毎日産んではくれるものの、
その鳴き声と言ったら尋常じゃない。
昨日なんてもう我慢の限度が来た。
いつまで飼うつもりかと聞いてしまったほど。

But I shouldn't blame the chicks.
They had a reason to get crazy.
They had a visitor.
でも、それは鶏のせいではなかった。
折のそばにはただならぬ訪問者がいた。

It was a long one.
I haven't seen them for a long time.
I used to see them a lot around my house when I was a child.
This kind is safe (I guess),
but there is another kind that is poisonous.
こんな長いやつ！
家の庭で蛇なんてこのところ見てなかったけど、
子供のころは本当にしょっちゅう見てた。
これはたぶん大丈夫なやつだけど、
茶色のはマムシ。
このあたりでは“くちゃめ”と呼んでた。
あれが出るとやっぱ叫んでたな。

Street Art

Manhole cover in Tsuyama city next to my hometown, Mimasaka.
The city’s mascot is "Kappa", the mythical creature that lives in river.
Tsuyama is a beautiful castle town of 17th-century Tsuyama castle.
The stone wall of the castle is seen on left
and the cherry blossoms on top.
Over 5,000 cherry blossoms in the castle site is just amazing in spring.
I have a sweet memory of cherry blossom viewing there.
I love this cute design  and colors.
お隣の津山市のマスコットは河童。
マンホールの蓋には河童と津山の市の花、桜、そして津山城の石垣。
津山城に5千本以上の桜の咲き乱れる景色は、
全く言いようのない美しさ。
ここでお花見をしたころを思い出すと心がふわっとあったかい。
それにしてもこのマンホールの蓋、
デザインといい、色使いといい、なんかとってもいいよ。

こんなのが道にあると散歩もまた楽し。

Nature walk

Silverberry is one of my childhood favorites.
We used to find them around the neighborhood.
I can't find them anywhere now,
except the ones someone planted in the garden.
This is the ones my dad planted in the back yard several years ago.
If I could come home around this season,
I can enjoy them!!!
グイビはゆすらと並んで大好きなベリーだった。
昔は近所の庭や道端にあちこちあって、
学校の帰りにいただいてた。
今じゃよっぽど好きな人なら苗を買ってきて植えてるくらい。
うちではお父さんが何年が前に裏庭に植えてくれたので、
この時期に帰国できれば運よく楽しめるのだ。

This is the shed of the garbage/recycling in the community.
It is taken care of by the community members.
The sorting system of garbage and recycling in Japan is strict.
The clear plastic bag is used for disposing garbage with their name on it.
If you put any items that is not permitted,
the garbage bag will be returned to you. (True!!)
You can only leave the garbage or recycling bags
in the shed on certain time and certain days when the members attend.
Other times, it is locked.
ごみとリサイクルの小屋
日本のごみとリサイクルの決まりは今とても厳しい。
ゴミ袋にまで名前をつけて出さないといけないし、
間違って変なもの入れてたら戻ってくる。
地区の人が当番制で管理するのは大変だけど、いいこと。

I have never paid attention to the manhole cover. It says Mimasaka (name of the city) sewer water 
with a cute design of plum flowers and white chrysanthemums  
(the flowers of Mimasaka), and dwarf Chinese holly 
(the tree of Mimasaka) マンホールの蓋なんて今まで気にも留めなかったけど、
みまさか(美作)、汚水、
そして町の花である白菊と梅、
町の木であるクロガネモチのデザインとともに！
いつからこんなかわいいのになってたの？

My dad and his friends used to fish in this pond on weekends.
My sister and I liked to deliver him my mom's home made boxed lunch to him.
We enjoyed hang out for a while,
 however, we have never understood the joy of sitting there
for a whole day, waiting for a fish!
Well, I kind of understand now.
お父さん達がいつも釣りをしていた池。
子供の頃、妹と私はここへお弁当を届けるのが楽しみだった。
その時は,一日中池のほとりに座って魚を待つお父さんたちの気持ちが理解できなかったけど、
今ならなんかわかる気がする。

I made crowns from clovers,
I tried to find four-leaf clovers under the blue sky.
青空の下でシロツメクサをねじって冠作ったし、
四葉のクローバーを真剣に探したっけ。

I love the cute look of the fern, and I love to eat them too.
わらびは見てもかわいいけど、食べるのはもっといい。

I twisted this leave to make a cup.
ちょっとねじれば葉っぱのカップに生まれ変わる。

Japanese poison oak that your skin would look like that bumpy leaves if you touch.
It even makes you itch when you look.
うるしの葉っぱ、見てるだけでかゆくなる。
触ったら本当にあの葉っぱみたいになるんだよね。

I spent happy time in the filed of lotus flowers.
レンゲの花畑で寝そべってた幸せの時間

I pulled the purple flowers to enjoy nectar.
紫色の花をぷちっと引き抜くと、
少量ながらネクターが味わえる！
 

I found the out-of-the-season chestnuts in spiky shells.
時期はずれの栗の実発見！

This is the golf course that I worked for the first time as a golf caddie
when I was in high school. However, I have never played golf!!!
When no one is playing, I enjoyed reading a book under a tree on green.
The public roads go through this golf course so that anyone could go in.
I can walk from my house in five minutes.
A part of the golf course took our family's rice fields when they built this golf course.
I have lots of good memory at the rice field that my sister and I helped and played when the family and our relatives planted the rice in spring and harvested the rice in fall.
高校の時初めて働いたゴルフ場、
ゴルフしたことないのになぜかキャディしてた！
誰もいない時は、このグリーンの木の下で本を読んでた。
このゴルフコースはとてもオープンなつくりで、誰でも勝手に入り込める。
ここは家から徒歩で5分。
このゴルフ場を作った時、うちの田んぼもたくさん買い取られた。
田植えと稲刈りの楽しい思い出が詰まった田んぼがなくなったのは悲しいけど、
これも時代の流れか。

Surrender

 5:00 in the morning

the air is crisp,

water in the rice field reflects green mountains behind.

Time moves slow here,

frogs and birds orchestra.


I feel the space,
I feel the time it seemed to be lost.


This scenery is not just a beautiful landscape for me.
It includes all the memories from the past,
the hope for the future,
and the time I am walking right now.


I feel the energy from the Earth and the Universe.
I surrender to the power of the nature.




朝五時
透き通った空気を感じながら散歩する。


田植えの終わったばかりの田んぼに映しだされる新緑の山、
蛙と鳥の声のオーケストラ


そこに広がるのは限りなき時間と空間


その美しい風景はただの切り取った絵ではない。


過去の思い出、
未来の夢、
そして今自分の立っているこの瞬間


地球と宇宙の力を感じた。


人間なんて無力だ。

White Clouds

White Clouds 

I live deep in the mountain

where no one can even find,

and where only the birds visit.

There is no garden,

I only see the huge rocks, 

and the white clouds above.

I had had many seasons,

and I don't remember how many years have gone by.

I am not rich.

However, I have to warn you all who has everything.

What you are proud of

such as money and status

doesn't do any good here,

or even where you live.

We have beautiful flowers in spring,

cool wind in summer,

gorgeous moon in fall,

and white snow in winter.

We don't realize how hard it is to appreciate and enjoy what we have.

It's harder to do the normal things right

than to do the challenge.

Go outside,

 Breath deep,

Feel like a child,

and enjoy the white clouds over the blue sky.

白雲幽石を抱く

”寒山拾得”の絵を描いた寒山が自分の住んでいるところを問われて作った詩の一説。

鳥道絶人跡

庭際何所有

白雲抱幽石

住茲凡幾年

屡見春冬易

寄語鐘鼎家

虚名定無益

(私は重畳たる岩山の中に居を定めた。

そこは人も近づけない深山幽谷で、

わずかに鳥のみが訪れて来るようなところだ。

庭には何もなく、その向こうにはそそり立つ岩と、

それを抱く白い雲があるだけだ。

ここに住み始めて何年になるのか。

何度か季節も移り変わった。

私の生活は貧しいが、しかし世間の富栄えた人たちに忠告する。

あなた方の富と名声はまったく虚しく、無益なものだと)

煩悩や執着から離れ、

日常をありのままの心で生きる。

春には花が咲き、

夏には心地よい涼風が流れ、

秋には月、

冬には雪がある。

つまらないことに心を奪われることさえなければ、

いついかなるときでも

この美しい景色を楽しむことができる。

単純で簡単なことが実は一番難しい。

子供のような透き通った心があれば、

青空に浮かぶ白い雲だけで幸せになれるのに。
