TSUCHIKARA: Change the way

Hello!

I created this blog to share a small part of me as a creater of Tsuchikara Pottery.

I also created another blog for my mom who sends me Etegami, a postcard with a picture and a short message on Japanese paper. My dad grows vegetables and fruits that my mom often paints on Etegami. They are retired and getting old, but I wanted to give them something exciting and to look forward to. The idea of the blog was perfect. They have been enjoying the wonderful comments that they got from around the world.

Soratobu etegamibatake (Flying picture card)

My mom started hobby of drawing picture on Japanese Washi paper postcard with a short message about two years ago. The models are from vegetable garden my dad takes care of, from their front/back yard, or their surroundings. When she can't find anything to draw at home, she takes a field trip to find it, or her friends bring it to her. She mails finished postcards to me, then I upload them to her blog with my correspondence to my mom. We enjoy this catch-ball communication between Japan and USA.

お母さんから届く絵手紙は玉手箱。一言では言えないくらいたくさんのものが詰まっている。絵手紙のモデルは、お父さんが丹精こめて育てた野菜だったり、季節の花だったり、ご近所やお友達からいただいたものだったり、お母さんが自分の足で探してきたものだったり、また最近では孫代わりかのように大事に育てているひよこちゃん。そしてそれを時間と魂をいっぱいこめて、やさしい手触りのはがきに描く。最後に加えられるのは、お母さんのその時の心を表す一言。

私は海を越えて飛んできた一枚の絵手紙に詰まったあたたかいものを時間をかけて味わう。こんな素敵なものを独り占めしたくない、どうにかしてみんなと分け合いたいという思いで始めたのがこのブログ。世界中をつなぐインターネットのおかげで、コメントや励ましのお言葉もたくさんいただいている。更新を楽しみにしているファンまで出てきたのだからがんばらなきゃ。そのためには日本のお父さんにも、お母さんにも元気でがんばってもらわなきゃ。

私もこのブログを通していろいろ勉強させてもらった。今ではお母さんからの心のこもった絵手紙に返信を書き、ブログとして世界中に発信するのが楽しみになった。それを日本でお父さんがパソコンを開き、お母さんと一緒に笑って見ている。私にとって絵手紙は遠く離れた親子を結ぶ大切な一枚になっているのです。

絵描きでも詩人でもない普通の田舎のお母さんが、すばらしい絵手紙の先生やお友達に支えられ、これほどまで人の心をあたたかくするものを描いている。そして何よりも、お母さん本人が心から楽しんで打ち込めるものにめぐりあえた。これからも親子揃ってできるだけ多くの人々に、絵手紙の魅力を分け合っていけたら幸いです。
