The purpose of the thing

モノの意味

必要なもの、愛着のあるもの、

いつか使うような気がするもの、後で役立つような気がするもの、

捨てきれないもの、二度と見たくもないもの、

人の生活はこんなモノたちに囲まれ、それらにコントロールされ、

本当に大事なものの場所を失いながら生きている。

機能のあるなしは別として、目的のないモノは人の生活に大きな無駄な空間を作ってしまう。

自分の身の回りから要らないものを取り去り、本当に意味のある、必要なものだけで生きる。

そのためには毎日、相当の努力が要る。

使う器の作り手として、その大きな穴に落ちないように細心の注意を払いながら、心をこめて作品を作っています。

The things- that I use, that I need, that I want, that I love.

The things- that I may use, that I may need, that I may want, that I may love.

The thing- that I don't want to keep, that I don't want to see, that I hate.

I am surrounded by all these things, and I am controlled by them,

instead of being in control of them.
I have so many things without purpose in my house. And they are taking over my space and my mind.

As a potter who makes pots, mostly for function purpose, I ask myself this question when I am making a pot:

Does this thing I am creating right now serve a purpose for someone?

Is this just an one-way message to someone from me?
Hope my little pot has a purposeful meaning to someone.
